Salesforce compensation has gotten to be a complex matter. 

The industry is moving from license models to SaaS and from individual sales professionals to sales teams that focus on various aspects of the sales process (Hunter/ Farmer/ Inside/ Outside).  It is becoming increasingly difficult to know the right combinations for salesforce motivation and retention.
