PANELISTS:
Lee Krevat
Director, Smart Grid, SDG&E
Krevat leads enterprise-wide smart grid strategy, policy, and project alignment for SDG&E.  In 2010, he was named one of the top 100 movers and shakers who are influencing the smart grid market by GreenTech Media and was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the GridWise Alliance, a smart grid advocacy coalition with the mission to transform the electric grid to achieve a sustainable energy future through the advocacy of well-reasoned smart grid policies at the federal, state, and local levels. SDG&E has built a strong foundation in Smart Grid technologies, including self-healing grid technology, automated sub-station condition-based maintenance, advanced outage and distribution management systems, and microgrid projects funded by DOE and CEC.  SDG&E filed a 10 year Smart Grid Deployment Plan on June 6, 2011 which described a vision for the future as well as a roadmap composed of 82 projects. SDG&E was ranked number one in the nation in 2009 and 2010, the first two years of the Smart Grid rankings published by IDC Energy Insights and Intelligent Utility magazine. Krevat’s prior positions at SDG&E include director of program delivery, where he oversaw IT for advanced technology projects and the development of new systems to improve operating efficiency and customer experience.  Krevat was also director of IT strategy and business partnership where he worked to align strategic direction between IT and the utility business units, as well as director of infrastructure engineering & operations. Before joining Sempra, Krevat led the Software Process Engineering, Technology Transfer and Software Process Improvement Teams at Tandem Computers.

Scott Anders
Director, Energy Policy Initiatives Center (EPIC), USD
Mr. Anders is the Director of the Energy Policy Initiatives Center (EPIC). He joined EPIC in October 2005 as its inaugural director and developed both its academic and research programs. Mr. Anders’ work at EPIC has focused on regulatory and policy issues related to developing efficient and low-carbon energy sources. Recent projects include the first-ever greenhouse gas inventory for San Diego County, policy research for a comparison of the San Diego region with regions with emerging clean technology industry clusters, and a feasibility study of implementing smart grid strategies and technologies in the San Diego region. Prior to joining EPIC, Mr. Anders was director for policy and planning at the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE). In this capacity he managed regulatory and legislative issue research and analysis, directed communications with regulatory agencies, including writing position papers and comments before California’s regulatory agencies, directed technical and policy support for the SANDAG’s Energy Working Group, and directed solar energy activities, including technical and policy research. Mr. Anders has authored or co-authored a number of papers and reports related to energy policy. Most recently he was a lead author on the report entitled, Potential for Renewable Energy in the San Diego Region. Mr. Anders also has been involved in regional energy planning for the last 10 years and has contributed to the San Diego region’s Regional Energy Strategy and Climate Action Plan. He contributed to the San Diego Regional Energy Infrastructure Study, a technical and policy survey of the regional energy market in San Diego, and Energy 2030: The San Diego Regional Energy Strategy, which serves as the region’s roadmap for energy planning. In 1999, Mr. Anders was a policy researcher for the Washington D.C. think tank Center for a Sustainable Economy, now part of Redefining Progress, where he researched market-based mechanisms as a policy tool for the energy sector.

James Fine
Economist, Environmental Defense Fund
James “Jamie” Fine works to reduce the impacts of energy systems used to power buildings, transport and service people, and produce and move goods. His areas of research and advocacy include design and implementation of market-based policy, modeling the economic, air quality, and health consequences of policy decisions, deploying smart grid for environmental and electricity customer benefits, and facilitating the meaningful involvement of community stakeholders in environmental planning.

Jim Waring
Chairman, CleanTech San Diego
James Waring has been the Board Chair since CleanTECH San Diego’s inception. Prior to that, Waring worked for the Mayor of San Diego as Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Land Use and Economic Development. He is a principal in FI Financial, LLC. a real estate investment company. Waring was previously a practicing attorney with an emphasis in transactional negotiations. He has served on and been Board Chair of a number of other not-for-profits, including the San Diego Natural History Museum, Francis Parker School and River Network, a Portland, OR-based environmental group. He currently serves as a Mayor’s appointment to the San Diego Housing Commission. Jim attended Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, and received a degree in Business Administration from USC. He has a law degree from the University of San Diego. In 2004, Jim returned to USD, earning a Masters Degree in Peace and Justice Studies at the Joan Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, where he currently serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board.

Managing Director, Ventana Capital
Thomas Hartman is an eclectic business services professional practicing in areas of venture capital, private equity, and management consulting.  He currently serves as a Managing Director of Irvine-based Ventana Capital Management, where he concentrates on information technology, energy, and (select) defense sector opportunities.  Mr. Hartman is also a Managing Director of Palm Ventures, LLC, a Greenwich, CT based Investment Company focused on investing in and building businesses in partnership with management teams and a small group of substantial investors.  Finally, Tom is the founder of Leaders/Boards/Associates; a consulting firm specialized in strategy and global business development.  His operating credentials include senior and executive management positions in both high-growth companies and multi-national corporations.  Tom received a BS in Electrical Engineering from Penn State and a Masters in Business Administration from The Wharton School of Business.
